March Book Recommendations

Happy Thursday, everyone.

For those of you that are new to the channel, welcome! My name is Susan, and I’m a freelance fiction editor, who specializes in sci fi, fantasy, and romance.

This week, we’re going to talk about some of the March releases that I am most looking forward to.

So let’s dive in!

First up is A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon by Sarah Hawley.

I cannot wait to get my hands on this rom-com paranormal romance. Which is fortunate since it is already out! (I’m a bit behind in my March recommendations, but to the benefit of no wait time for some!) Don’t worry, I already have my weekend bookstore trip planned.

This book tells the story of Mariel Spark, powerful witch, family heir, and passionate… baker? When her spell to summon flour goes wrong, Mariel is faced with a ruthless demon, determined to make a deal for her soul.

This sort of reminds me of that meme where authors try to format their word document and accidentally summon a demon? I LOVE it!

But when she refuses to deal, they become awkward roommates. Add in one nosy mother, and you can add fake dating to the mix as well. When feelings start to enter the mix, it can only spell disaster for these two opposites. Right?

Next is Midnight Strikes by Zeba Shahnaz.

This fantasy debut tells the story of Anaïs (anna-ees), who must work with an infuriatingly handsome prince to escape a nightmarish curse—an explosion killing everyone in the castle, including her—that forces them to relive the same night over and over.

If she’s going to escape this nightmarish time loop, Anaïs must stop the attack before it happens. But the court's gilded surface belies a rotten core, full of nobles grabbing at power, commoners itching for revolution, and royals who dream of taking the throne. It's up to Anaïs to untangle these knots of deadly deceptions . . . if she can survive past midnight.

Cinderella mixed with Happy Death Day? Sign me up!

This book is also out – just this past Tuesday on the 14th, so you can already get your hands on this fun, deadly fantasy.

Next is The Witch and the Vampire by Francesca Flores, out March 21.

Francesca Flores's The Witch and the Vampire is a queer Rapunzel retelling where a witch and a vampire who trust no one but themselves must journey together through a cursed forest with danger at every turn.
I could dive into more detail from the copy about the awesome monsters, the threat of her step-father, and more, but honestly, I was sold from that first line!

Not to mention the beautiful cover. This book is out on the 21st!

Cover image of A Door in the Dark by Scott Reintgen

And finally, A Door in the Dark by Scott Reintgen, out March 28.

This book is pitched as One of Us is Lying meets A Deadly Education.

To me, it sounds more like if Hermione were the lead in the Magicians series. But either way, how enticing does that sound?

This dark fantasy thriller follows six teenage wizards as they fight to make it home alive after a malfunctioning spell leaves them stranded in the wilderness, one already dead and the rest being hunted.

I can already feel the tension! This book comes out on the 28th!
